VIOLENT BY DESIGN

Francisco Reyes Jr

Violent By Design was a group exhibit  showing at Stay Gallery. It consisted of illustrators and designers in the streetwear industry. Opening night had a very successful turn out! It was very cool to see Stay Gallery full of people supporting the art movement.

Back in December we attended the Holiday Bazaar in Subliminal Projects where Alex got to meet Francisco Reyes Jr. He happens to be an artist that she admires very much. I mention this event because he was one of the many featured artists in Violent By Design. What a small world! It just proves what a big name Stay Gallery is making for itself. Reyes's work happened to be our favorite pieces in the exhibit. Below I added other work that we liked as well.

The exhibit is no longer running but I'm sure there's plenty more exciting exhibits happening in the near future!

talk to ya'll soon

SURROUNDED BY ART

A couple of weeks ago Long Beach had it's first Pow Wow which was basically an event where 20 artists were given a wall and painted whatever they wanted. We went to see most of the paintings and the exhibit at the Long Beach Museum of Art where there was even more art from the 20 artists! The point is there was a lot of art to admire in the city of Long Beach so we couldn't miss out on the opportunity to check it all out.

In a previous post Alex  wrote about our day and shared some pictures which you can see here. The video below features our favorite art seen in the streets and the museum on that day. If you're interested in learning more about the artists who participated in this years Pow Wow press here!
Also, the exhbit in LBMA runs until October 25th 2015 so there is still time to visit that.

Thanks for reading!

p.s  if you visit the museum on a Friday the admission is free.

HOW TO NOT MAKE A STENCIL

Hello amigos!
While Alex was away on vacation in Mexico I had some time to reminisce about all the videos we've made. I came across the one below, I made it for my art class last semester where I had to teach the class how to do "something". I could be about anything. I think my "teaching" was a complete disaster but this video is, for some reason, one of my favorites. I think it really captures the essence of  our friendship and our overall attitude. We like to try new things, we don't take things too seriously, and we like staying creative. The video is kind of a fail because we realize there are a lot of things we could've improved or done in a smarter way but regardless it was really fun to make!

Maybe in the future we'll film more of these...just for laughs.

EDIT: I'd like to point out our new lovely banner! It was made by our super amazing and talented friend Anna Joy. Make sure to check her out!

STAY: Non-Toxic Event + Bones of Steel

Posters via  Stay

Frankly, this is very embarrassing. Back in November we attended an exhibit at our local (and favorite) art gallery,Stay, where we experienced a variety of things and not until now are we sharing them. Firstly, I'm pretty sure this was our first official art exhibit if not it def was the most memorable. That night we talked to the team in charge of the gallery, briefly met Cristian Castro (Artist behind Bones Of Steel) and chatted with the director of  KAB Europe. It was all very exciting, so exciting our hands kept trembling while filming resulting in some very interesting footage. Anyway, that night is the night we realized the opportunity that came with having an up and coming art gallery so close to home. Let's just say we are headed towards great things.

Just because the exhibit was 4 months ago doesn't mean you shouldn't watch the video above and appreciate the art via your computer. Your feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

EXPLORING LA: VB

Over the weekend we decided we were done wishing and decided to start doing. So we planned a trip around our city of Los Angeles. Being California girls you'd think we've hit all the local hot spots around LA. Wrong.                              Youtube // Bloglovin

S.I.D: Superman Is Dead by Shepard Fairey and Dennis Morris

On Friday night we went to the opening night of Superman Is Dead. The initials spelled S.I.D.-- as in Sid Vicious, the legendary bassist for the Sex Pistols. The show is by the popular visual artist Shepard Fairey in collaboration with photographer Dennis Morris. Oh, did I mention there was also a free show in the parking lot featuring Ritchie Love, a band assembled by the the Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, with Billy Idol on vocals, Clem Burke from Blondie on drums and Leigh Gorman from Bow Wow Wow on bass.  The Sex Pistols + Fairey + art+ good music. Sounds bitchin, right?
Wrong. Sort of.
